WSD would like to give a Recognition of Excellence shoutout to Wahluke High School freshmen student Diego Olivares Vazquez for his latest achievements in soccer. Diego is currently playing for the Three Rivers Soccer Team and has been playing for the Three Rivers Soccer Club for 2 years. Diego states, "You definitely grow as a player. It’s given me many opportunities, such as going to Orlando, Florida, for a national tournament. That is one of many tournaments I have gone to while being in the Three Rivers Team. Now I have this upcoming Regionals' tournament on June 21-27 where we will stay in Boise, Idaho for 6 days and compete for our way into nationals." Our high school, teachers, students, and community members would like to wish him and his team all the best while representing the talent of Wahluke School District and Mattawa, Washington. WSD is partnering up with the Mattawa Community Medical Clinic to host a COVID-19c Vaccination Clinic. The vaccine clinic will be at the Wahluke High School Commons. • Tuesday, June 8th • Thursday, June 10th From 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM – No appointment is necessary. – Open for anyone in our community ages 12 and older – Parents or guardians will need to be available for consent for students younger than 18. – 2nd doses are available to those individuals who received the first dose. Wahluke School District has received information on an incident happening around 3-4 miles North out of Mattawa. WSD has been in contact and communication with the Mattawa Police Department and has been advised WSD not to go into a secure and teach. Mattawa Police Department is watching the situation closely and has ensured us that it is under control. WSD will contact our staff and families if there are any more updates that we can share at this moment. Congratulations to Dayra Ruiz, for competing in the Washington FFA Association Spanish Creed public speaking event. Dayra Ruiz attends WJH and is in 8th grade. She was awarded SECOND IN STATE for completing and reciting the FFA Spanish Creed! She also performed the President role of the FFA Opening Ceremonies in Spanish this year at Session 2 of the Washington FFA State Convention. Ken Hardiman is her FFA Advisor and WJH and WSD are excited to see all the work the FFA Club is doing. Felicitaciones a Dayra Ruiz, por competir en el evento de oratoria en español de la Asociación FFA de Washington. The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is brought to Wahluke by the Wahluke community Coalition. This program is nationally and internationally recognized. In this program, families learn skills found to significantly reduce problem behaviors, delinquency, and alcohol and drug abuse in children and improve social competencies and school performance. These wahluke families have learned a lot and have strengthened their bonds as a family. In these pictures, they share their family shield project with us, including their families' core beliefs, a family tree, which showcases different generations, and pictures of families receiving a special Mother's Day gift to enjoy together. This program will be offered to more families in our district in the future so make sure to keep an eye out for that information or contact the Wahluke Community Coalition for more information. ☀️❤️☀️❤️☀️ El Programa de Fortalecimiento de Familias es traído a Wahluke por la Coalición de la comunidad de Wahluke. Congratulations WJH Student Jose L. Gonzalez! For winning this awesome prize donated during the WJH and WHS Parent Night. This event was held by the Multiculture and Multilingual Department to connect and communicate with new to the U.S. families. This Parent Night gave the department an opportunity to get to know families and create relationships and connections. About 15 people attended and received information regarding the newcomer center and what it will look like, its location, and what the plan is to help new to the U.S. students. This event was also an opportunity for parents to ask questions and get the information themselves. During this, even WSD families share amazing stories about how important it is to keep their own language and learn English. The event was truly a success! We ended the night with Pizza and a Raffle, the prize was donated by a local business “La Fina” ¡Felicitaciones al estudiante de WJH, José L. González! Por ganar este increíble premio donado durante la Noche de Padres de WJH y WHS. Este evento fue realizado por el Departamento de Multicultura y Multilingüe para conectarse y comunicarse con nuevas familias de EE. UU. WSD’s K-12 Science/STEM Instructional Specialist Chuck Hubbard and Garden and Sustainability Support Specialist Derek Hunsaker are hosting a Salmon Release Event for students Wednesday, May 19th @ 4:00 PM Desert Aire Boat Launch (302 Desert Aire DR SW, Mattawa, WA 99349). Students with an ID will be allowed to help WSD release fish into the river. There will also be prizes for participation!
